The Whitworth Choir and Orchestra will perform a varied program of works for their Taiwan tour, including a new commission by the Whitworth composition faculty Brent Edstrom titled Psalm 146 and Haydn’s Insanae et Vanae for choir and orchestra. Respectively, the two ensembles will present individual sets of programs. The Whitworth Choir will feature a set of choral music representing American and Taiwanese music traditions, including music by Seattle composer Jacob Malpocker and a traditional Taiwanese folk tune about the Twelve Chinese Zodiacs. The orchestra’s selections will include Beethoven’s grandiose Egmont Overture and memorable selections from Verdi’s La Traviata.
