Felix Mendelssohn was so inspired by his visit to Scotland in 1829 that he wrote his Third Symphony to capture his impressions of the wild, untamable country, which was alien to his ordered upbringing. We open with Glisk, a brilliant work by the Scottish composer Aileen Sweeney that creates a musical glimmer of light, and feature our own Julia Pyke as soloist in Rouse’s Gaelic-inspired flute concerto.
